And so we get to bring new energy and new ideas and have a fresh vision for this year. And so it's it is all of that newness that is exciting at this point."

The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly left its mark on the education system, presenting new challenges that schools must navigate. One such challenge is the issue of low attendance, which has become a pressing concern for districts across the country. In the past, school funding was largely tied to attendance, but with the disruptions caused by the pandemic, this model has proven to be inadequate.Fortunately, Mississippi legislators have recognized the need for a more flexible and equitable funding formula. Principal Wansley explains, "I think it's going to it's kind of yet to be seen exactly how it's going to impact, but I do appreciate that the funding has changed slightly so that we can look at how many students do we have enrolled because it doesn't matter if their attendance is not so great. We serve them. And so we have to be able to provide those services. So I believe looking at it enrollment to look at that funding is going to be a positive shift for schools to be able to get the funding that they need."
