Exploring the Artistic Talents of René Oberer

René Oberer, a multitalented artist, has been selected as the center's featured artist for December and January. Her captivating work spans a wide range of mediums, including acrylic, fiber, glass, and watercolor. However, Oberer's most recent endeavor has been the repurposing of unique pieces of wood, breathing new life into these natural canvases.Oberer's artistic journey began in her hometown of Vandalia, Ohio, where she honed her skills in commercial art, earning a bachelor's degree from Sinclair Community College. For two decades, she worked as a floral designer, infusing her creations with her innate sense of beauty and design. Oberer's passion for the arts extended beyond the floral realm, as she owned and operated a dance studio, teaching dance in Vandalia for over 35 years.In 2004, Oberer and her husband discovered the inviting community of Fairfield Glade and decided to call it home. It was during a Fun and Wine Friday event at the Plateau Creative Arts Center that Oberer was inspired to rekindle her passion for painting. While she continues to excel in acrylics, Oberer has also rediscovered her love for watercolors and has explored the realms of textiles and art glass.Oberer's artistic journey has taken an intriguing turn in recent years, as she has delved into the world of wood and resin. "I've painted and worked with textiles my entire life," she shared. "Recently I've started working with wood and resin ranging from small sculptures to tables." Oberer's approach to these unique mediums is guided by the natural flow of the materials, allowing the piece to lead her into the creative process.

Celebrating the Art Guild and the Plateau Creative Arts Center

Oberer's artwork, along with the work of other talented members of the Art Guild, will be on display at the Plateau Creative Arts Center from December 6th to February 6th, 2025. The center, which operates on a seasonal schedule, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday until December 23rd. Thereafter, it will transition to winter hours, operating from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday until March 31st, 2025.The Plateau Creative Arts Center is a hub of artistic activity, offering a diverse range of classes, exhibits, and events. The center's mission is to provide a platform for local artists to showcase their work and inspire the community. Oberer, who joined the Art Guild in 2022, has found a welcoming and collaborative environment, working alongside fellow artists and volunteers.
